Pantone’s fall 2018 colour trend report features bold and vibrant colours for the season. It is no surprise to see the return of jewel tones like shades of burgundy, teal, olive and purple. A few surprises include the continued trend of a lilac floral colour that was everywhere in Spring 2018. The lilac along with shades of yellow make it that much easier to transition pieces from your spring wardrobe into the autumn season. Consider pairing (and layering) yellow with burgundy or lilac with darker shades of purple.

At Bay & Harbour, you will find many pieces that are on trend in many ways, including the colours of the season. Have a look at some of our favourite picks!

Did metals really ever gone out of style?! The upcoming fall / winter trends feature lots of metal-based jewellery in both gold and silver tones. Statement necklaces layered chains and chunky to dainty, there’s something to suit everyone’s taste. We will also be seeing a lot of mixing of metals.

Here is some runway inspiration from the recent S/S 2019 shows.

The Victoria & Albert Museum, one of London’s most prestigious museums, is getting set to host an exhibition titled Fashioned from Nature, which will “trace the complex relationship between fashion and the natural world” from the 1600s to present day.

Running from April 21, 2018 to January 27, 2019, the exhibition will explore how designers draw inspiration from nature and highlight those that have championed ethically conscious fashion. The exhibition is supposed to examine the fashion industry’s impact on the environment and the influence of changing attitudes on the production process. The exhibit will also educate patrons on natural fibers and their uses over the years, offering solutions not just highlighting problems.

Having had success with fashion-themed exhibitions in the past (Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion; Undressed: A Brief History of Underwear, Club to Catwalk: London Fashion in the 1980s), we are excited to see what the museum is able to offer this time. We believe this is an exceptional platform to raise awareness and educate people on the power of sustainable fashion.

“Runway trends are many things: inspirational and directional, yes, but rarely work-friendly. A bit of clever styling is transformative though, making even the most out-there looks suitable for a conference room or meeting with clients. Here, subdued and statement takes on five of the trends we’re most excited for this fall (because saving fashion for the weekend is no way to live).”

Voting with your Dollar #consciousconsumerism #ethicalfashion #fashion

A common theme we have talked about in this blog is the concept of using purchasing power to make an impact – this is the basis of ethical fashion. Consumers – the ultimate users of fashion goods – have the ability to stand for what they believe in simply by how they spend.

We are witnessing a brilliant example of this concept in the current situation the Ivanka Trump brand finds itself in. With well-known retailers such as Nordstrom and TJ Maxx choosing to drop Ivanka Trump’s line, perhaps the popular vote is finding a new way to express itself. Per an article in The Wall Street Journal, sales of the fashion line declined 32% at Nordstrom in its last fiscal year, despite the fact that the chain’s overall sales rose. It was this sharp decline that resulted in Nordstrom dropping the line. Other stores such as Neiman Marcus, Sears and Kmart have also followed suit.

While the debate rages on in regards to the ethics of White House officials blatantly advocating for the commercial line and the overall motivations behind the decisions to drop the line itself, this is very obviously a conscious consumerism decision.

It is very powerful to see the impact that Tweets, hashtags and the fashionista dollar can have on commerce and society. I, for one, hope that trend continues…
